Fertility expert, Alison Murdoch, says that there is not a need for the names of couples whose IVF treatment does not result in a pregnancy to be put on the HFEA information register.

Scientists and Bishops meet to discuss ethics of embryonic stem cell research
Scientists, ethicists, heads of medical charities and religious leaders met on Friday evening (16 May) at the Wellcome Collection in London to discuss the Human Embryology and Fertilisation Bill currently before parliament.

Leading fertility doctor, Simon Fishel, states the case for pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and saviour siblings
Dr Simon Fishel, managing director of the CARE Fertility group, argues for permitting the use of PGD in order to help families with a sick child have a tissue-matched sibling. He argues that the good brought about by the birth of a tissue-matched sibling far outweighs any perceived harm.

MP’s welcome patients and scientists show support for the Bill
Medical researchers, patient groups and members of the public who support the measures proposed in the HFE Bill gathered outside Parliament to show supoort for the Bill as it received its second reading in the House of Commons on 12th may.

The BMA outlines its support for the provisions in the HFE Bill, which relate to assisted reproduction treatment and the use of human embryos for research purposes. The BMA also supports the current model of UK-wide regulation with the broad framework set out in legislation and a statutory body – the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) -interpreting and applying the framework.

British Fertility Society expresses concern that certain clinical situations could constitute a breach of the current law relating to confidentiality
The BFS would support an amendment which allowed rules on medical confidentiality to be applied, similar to those applied in other fields of medical practice.
